4-tert-Butylbenzylammonium iodide, also written as 4-tert-butylphenylmethylammonium iodide, is the hydroiodide of 4-tert-butylbenzylamine. The tert-butyl substituted benzyl cation is employed as a perovskite precursor when a bulky hydrophobic organic cation is needed to separate inorganic slabs and widen the interlayer distance. It is refined through four purification passes to >=99%, dissolves in DMF and DMSO, and is stored in the dark under argon as a moisture-, air- and light-sensitive powder.
