Converting N,N-diethyl ethylenediamine to its dihydrochloride turns a mobile, air-reactive liquid into a free-flowing solid that can be weighed on an open bench for short periods. The molecule keeps a tertiary diethylamino group and a primary amine side by side, so it can coordinate metals on one end while remaining available for condensation or salt formation on the other. In halide perovskite formulation it serves as a diammonium cation precursor, where the two protonated sites can template layered or mixed-dimensional structures. It melts at 104°C and takes up moisture quickly, so dry-box handling and argon storage suit it best. Minimum assay is 98%.
